It may sound absurd, but its true. A 19 year old girl was the victim of a gang rape in Saudi Arabia was recently ordered to receive 200 lashes.

Originally the girl was to receive 90 lashes for "being in the car of an unrelated male at the time of the rape.", but the high judicial council increased that number to 200 and will be jailed for six months, for "her attempt to aggravate and influence the judiciary through the media.".

The girl had told her story to the news media which infuriated the council who helps inforce the strict interpretation of islamic doctrine which explicitly prohibits single women from being alone and associating with the opposite sex. It also forbids women from driving and requires them to be covered from head to toe in public.
