Description:
This introductory course is designed to provide professional nurses, nurse practicioners or nurse midwives who wish to practice as a sexual assault examiner (SANE) or the physician who wishes to refine skills, with a comprehensive educational program. Course content includes how to do the assessment, evaluation and treatment of the adult sexual assault survivor. In addition to covering psychological aspects of sexual assault, topics witill include mechanics and identification of sexual assault injury, forensic concepts, documentation, evidence collection, legal aspects and the role of the provider from initial interventions to courtroom responsibilities. Methods include didactic sessions as well as clinical practice. A Rutgers certificate will be awarded upon successful completion of the program. Selected days are open to social workers, rapre crisis personnel, law enforcement, prosecutors and other interested professionals.
