Woman Sexually Assaulted to Death?
A woman Gabriela Romo was pronounced dead at the scene in her acquaintance’s home. Gabriela Romo and Michael Sontoya both grew up in St. Paul, Minnesota and had known each other since early grade school days.
The two 31 year olds were out late drinking in a local bar. They left the bar around 2:00AM that night and went back to him home. Sontoya claims the two had consentual sex that night and that when he woke in the morning that Romo was still unconscious.
Romo was found lying on her back, wearing only underpants, socks and one shoe. There were numerous smears of blood found on that walls and on various clothing items.
“When asked how he could account for the large amount of blood in the room, Sontoya stated that it’s possible he may have torn G.P.R.’s (Romo’s) vaginal walls when they were having sex,” the complaint said.
The medical examiner ruled that Romo bled to death “due to traumatic injuries to her pelvic and abdominal cavity regions due to sexual assault,”.
According to a local news agency, “An autopsy found extensive traumatic injuries to Romo’s genitalia and anal regions consistent with sexual assault. She had extensive trauma to the pelvic and abdominal regions and a large laceration to the vaginal wall”.
While not completely unheard of, it is exceptionally rare that a person dies from the injuries sustained during a sexual assault. In most cases such injuries are due to foreign object insertions.
