 Your government needs your help, and so do countless men, women, and minors who are victims of intimate partner violence.

The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services is asking developers to submit ideas about applications to help prevent or assist victims of dating violence. Nearly 20% of women in college report experiencing sexual assualt while in college.

Judging criteria for submissions
Usefulness
Each entry will be rated for its ability to empower users for the prevention of youth dating violence and sexual assault with real-time direct connections, social media integration, safety/privacy, and access to reputable resources all considered.
Innovativeness
Each entry will be rated for the degree of new thinking and creativity it brings to applications focusing on the prevention of violence and abuse among young adults.
Usability
Each entry will be rated on its user-friendliness and interactive capabilities.
Potential Impact
Each entry will be rated on the strength of its potential to help college students and young adults prevent violence and assault from occurring

The National Institute of Justice (NIJ) is offering a FREE online basic forensic DNA testing course geared specifically toward law enforcement, court officials and other forensic professionals.

The main goal of this course is to provide students with an understanding of the important role DNA plays in forensic science; introduce the steps involved in forensic DNA testing using the latest methods and technologies; and provide a basic understanding of the National DNA database system.

The IAFN, has selected Atlanta GA for its 2009 Annual Scientific Assembly. This event is held each year around the country to help spread the word about forensic nursing and give participants and exhibitors the opportunity to network and learn more about the latest trends and best practices for Forensic Nursing.

This online course is designed to introduce the participant to common patterned injuries that may be associated with abuse, neglect or the result from unintentional trauma. The characteristic types of blunt and sharp force injuries will be presented using a series of slides which illustrate classic soft tissue and skeletal injuries that may be revealed during routine clinical assessments.

Forensic Nurse Examiner (Adult Curriculum) Training Program
This training seminar has been specifically designed for Registered Nurses interested in becoming Forensic Nurse Examiners (FNEs). Those who wish to practice as FNEs in Maryland must be an RN with at least 18 months experience and attend the entire seminar to be eligible for Maryland certification. The training is based on a multi-disciplinary approach; therefore, advocates, law enforcement, and other allied professionals are welcome and encouraged to attend.

FNE Certification for the Adult/Adolescent patient requires an additional 40-hour clinical component beyond this 40-hour classroom training, which is designed to familiarize the RN with the resources available in their community. It is suggested that RNs become hired by a SAFE program prior to starting this course, and especially prior to beginning the clinical requirements. Furthermore, to become a Pediatric Forensic Nurse Examiner, which entails a separate and additional 62 hours of classroom and clinical training, a RN must first obtain their Adult/Adolescent Forensic Nurse Examiner certification.
